Hi, I'm Jennifer!

My love of dogs began at an early age......with my first family dog, Lassie–an incredibly sweet Bassett/Beagle mix. As a child I dreamt of becoming a vet. Ultimately I earned a B.A. in Psychology from Purdue and went on to become a certified Massage Therapist.
After becoming “dog nanny” to Calvin the Wonder Dog, I soon realized that working with dogs was the career path I'd always wanted to follow. In August of 1999 I started “A Walk in the Park! of the North Shore”, a dog walking and petsitting service. I eventually added doggie daycare & overnight dog sitting where my clients’ pups could have a safe and loving environment in which to stay & play. The knowledge and experience I gained while caring for these marvelous creatures, led me to explore training as the next leg of my incredible journey with dogs. During a rigorous apprenticeship, I gained comprehensive knowledge of dog behavior and force-free training methods. I went on to work as a professional dog trainer-working privately with clients and their dogs, as well as creating and teaching a variety of classes-from Puppy Kindergarten & Dog Reactivity, to the Mind Your Manners class. In November of 2015 I received my accreditation as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) – logging over 300 hours of training time, passing a rigorous examination, and agreeing to uphold the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) Code of Ethics. I see the training process as one of teamwork- in which both the dogs & their guardians are learning & having fun. My role is to teach clients how they can motivate their dog(s) to perform & repeat the behaviors they find desirable-in the clearest & kindest ways possible. I am absolutely thrilled & grateful to be working in such an interesting & rewarding profession-& I look forward to each new opportunity to help improve & strengthen the relationship between humans & their canine companions! I'm here to help. Ready to get started?
